Fire Commissioner Scoppetta and FDNY Foundation Join Islamic Cultural Center Leaders to Announce Operation Fresh Battery
Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and representatives from the FDNY Foundation have been invited to the Islamic Cultural Center tomorrow to announce the kickoff of Operation Fresh Battery, the largest giveaway of smoke-alarm batteries in the City’s history. Local residents and community leaders are expected to attend in support of the unprecedented program.
The FDNY Foundation and members of the FDNY Fire Safety Education Unit will distribute 145,000 batteries at various locations throughout the City this week as part of the initiative to promote fire-safety awareness. This outreach program was developed in the wake of the deadly fire at 1022 Woodycrest Avenue that killed one adult and nine children last week.
