FIRE COMMISSIONER SCOPPETTA TO PRESIDE AT
PROMOTIONAL CEREMONY FOR 59 MEMBERS OF THE
FDNY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE
Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta will preside at a promotional ceremony tomorrow for 59 members of the FDNY Emergency Medical Service. Fifty members who completed advanced training will be upgraded to Paramedic, and seven members will be elevated to the rank of Captain. Two members also will be promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief. These members will be assigned to various units throughout the city.
Among those being promoted is Barry Travis, a 22-year veteran who risked his life last year to rescue a 63-year-old woman trapped above a fire in Brooklyn. For his heroic actions, he was awarded the Tracy Allen-Lee Medal at EMS Medal Day 2006. Travis will be upgraded to Paramedic and promoted to the rank of Captain.
