FIRE DEPARTMENT TO KICKOFF FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
AND NEW SCHOOL YEAR FOR THE FDNY HIGH SCHOOL
FOR FIRE AND LIFE SAFETY

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta will preside over a kickoff event tomorrow at the FDNY High School for Fire and Life Safety in Brooklyn, N.Y., to celebrate Fire Prevention Week (October 8 to October 14) and the third year of the college and career preparatory school.

Commissioner Scoppetta and other FDNY officials will welcome new and returning students to the school, which offers a rigorous academic program with a special emphasis on the academic, physical and moral rigors of emergency response. This year, the school is offering an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program that enables students to earn an EMT certification along with a high school diploma upon graduation. Then, graduates can work as EMT’s and/or attend college.

Tomorrow’s activities include a fire safety exhibit, a hazard house demonstration and a presentation by the FDNY Recruitment Unit. Various FDNY units will be on hand, while participants can try on FDNY protective gear and inquire about fire safety and other Fire Department programs.
