FDNY TO CONDUCT FULL SCALE
HAZ–MAT DECONTAMINATION DRILL

Firefighters train at a simulated chemical attack on a Subway

The New York City Fire Department tomorrow will hold a full-scale training exercise at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall’s Island. More than 100 FDNY members will participate in this drill, which will simulate a chemical attack on a subway.

Roughly 15 units will be responding to the incident and they will be training and evaluated on a
number of categories such as FDNY communications, patient identification and triage, HAZ MAT
response plan, mitigation and decontamination.

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta, Chief of Department Peter Hayden, Chief of Operations Salvatore Cassano, Chief of Special Operations Command John Norman; Assistant Chief of Training Thomas Galvin; and FDNY firefighters.
