FIRE COMMISSIONER NICHOLAS SCOPPETTA AND

FIRE PREVENTION EXPO AT ROCKEFELLER CENTER
New York City ’s Rockefeller Center will once again play host to the FDNY Fire Prevention Expo on October 11, 2005 . The annual event, which is held to help promote FIRE PREVENTION WEEK and educate New Yorkers on the importance of fire safety, will include numerous exhibits and educational activities for people of all ages.
Highlights will include “Hot Dog the Fire Safety Dog,” the Fire Department’s life size mascot who helps firefighters reinforce the importance of fire safety. The FDNY Hazardous Materials team will “suit-up” and demonstrate the proper handling of a mock hazardous Materials incident involving a chemical spill. One of the Fire Department’s elite Rescue Companies will perform a rope slide, a simulated rescue of a trapped victim and vehicle extrication. In addition to these events the FDNY mobile Fire Safety House, which simulates fire conditions will be available for tours throughout the day.
In addition the public is being urged to visit the Fire Safety Education Fund’s new website at fdnyfirezone.org to learn how to prevent a fire in your home, survive a fire and get important lifesaving information on fire safety in seven different languages.
