FDNY MOBILIZES CONVOY OF VEHICLES TO PROVIDE
DISASTER RELIEF IN NEW ORLEANS

 

The Fire Department tomorrow morning will send a convoy of FDNY vehicles to provide disaster assistance relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The convoy of vehicles will be led by former Engine 283 (The Spirit of Louisiana ), which was donated to the FDNY from Louisiana in the aftermath of September 11th. Also, among the vehicles deployed are an FDNY Mobile Command Center, six battalion vehicles (suburbans) and one supply truck. These vehicles will be used to support the complement of more than 320 firefighters already deployed and working in New Orleans.

Through the “Bucks for Trucks” campaign, the State of Louisiana raised nearly $1 million to purchase eight vehicles for the FDNY, including former Engine 283, which was dedicated in December 2002. In January 2003, seven more vehicles were given to the Department including a Decontamination Unit (DECON), Recuperation and Care Unit (RAC) and five Ford Crown Victoria sedans.
