FIRE DEPARTMENT URGES PROPERTY
AND BUSINESS OWNERS TO CLEAR AWAY SNOW FROM FIRE HYDRANTS
The Fire Department is urging all property owners, lessees, and renters citywide to clear snow away from any fire hydrants in front of their buildings. Currently, fire companies are conducting surveys of hydrants within their administrative districts and finding that a number of hydrants are buried under snow. In addition to the daily emergency responsibilities of fire units, the companies are also currently working to remove any accumulated snow at hydrants in their response areas. New Yorkers can help the FDNY by shoveling the snow and clearing a path to the hydrant. Any delay in fire companies locating hydrants and getting water on a fire will endanger the lives of both firefighters and civilians.
