NASCAR NEXTEL CUP CHAMPION KURT BUSCH TO COMPETE AGAINST NEW YORK ’S BRAVEST IN A BATTLE OF SPEED
2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion Kurt Busch tomorrow will visit the FDNY Training Facility on Randall’s Island and compete against members of the FDNY in a number of timed scenarios to determine how fast he really is. The competition, dubbed “2004 Nextel Cup Challenge” will pit Busch against New York City Firefighters assigned to Brooklyn’s Engine Company 219 / Ladder Company 105. The events will include a ladder raise and extension, hose stretch, dummy drag, and a simulated forcible entry (door breach). Instructors from the FDNY Fire Academy will supervise the timed events and the participant with the lowest time upon completion will be crowned “2004 Chase for the Nextel Cup” champion. Following the competition, reps from both Nextel and NASCAR will join Busch to make a presentation to the FDNY Family Assistance Unit.
