Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta tomorrow will preside over the 2004 FDNY Administrative Awards Ceremony. The ceremony is the first held since 9-11 and honors the men and women of FDNY who perform the essential duties that enable the Department and its members to operate on a daily basis. Many of those being honored will be recognized for the jobs performed during the terror attacks of 9-11 and the months and years that followed. Among those receiving awards tomorrow will be the FDNY Family Assistance Unit, created to help the families of FDNY members affected by the enormous losses incurred by the FDNY on 9-11. The Manhattan Central Office of Fire Dispatchers will be recognized for their resourcefulness and judgement in handling the dispatch and deployment of units citywide during what was the equivalent of a 17-alarm response at the World Trade Center. The Director of the FDNY Counseling Unit will also be honored for providing grieving families, friends and surviving members of FDNY with the resources and programs needed to help get through the toughest of times. In total, 23 individuals and groups will be honored for their contribution to FDNY training, operations, support services and a number of other administrative categories.
