Fire Department and Department
of Immigrant Affairs to begin food collections at firehouses
for disaster relief in Grenada and Jamaica
The Fire Department joined the Department of Immigrant Affairs
today in announcing the designation of nine firehouses in
three separate boroughs as collection points for non-perishable
foods in order to help aid those in Jamaica and Grenada that
have been severely affected by Hurricane Ivan. The firehouses
will act as drop-off points for anyone wishing to assist in
the relief effort. The FDNY will be working closely with the
NYC Department of Immigrant Affairs in facilitating the pick-up
and delivery of the goods to the devastated countries. Those
that wish to help are asked to place all food in boxes or
clear plastic bags for drop-off at one of the houses listed
