MEDIA ADVISORY:

FIRE COMMISSIONER NICHOLAS SCOPPETTA TO PRESIDE AT FDNY OFFICERS MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE GRADUATION CEREMONY

15 Officers have completed 8-month course given by Columbia School of Business

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta tomorrow will preside over a graduation ceremony for 15 FDNY chief officers who have successfully completed the FDNY Officers Management Institute. The officers were chosen to participate in the program because they are seen as the future leaders of FDNY in both Fire and EMS Operations. The program was taught by professors from the Columbia School of Business and took place four days a month for an eight-month period at General Electric’s Corporate Training Facility in Croton, New York. The curriculum is tailored to provide fire and EMS chiefs with training in management initiatives such as strategic planning, interpersonal skills and the budget process, all relative aspects that a top FDNY Chief must encounter in order to help run the Department. The course concluded last week when the 15 members assembled into teams and presented final projects, ranging from communications at a major emergency incident to the evacuation of a high-rise building, to Commissioner Scoppetta.
