FIRE COMMISSIONER NICHOLAS
SCOPPETTA
ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF FIRST FDNY STRATEGIC PLAN
Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta today
released the Fire Department’s Strategic Plan for 2004
and 2005. The Strategic Plan—the first of its kind to
be published in the Department’s history—will
serve as a comprehensive roadmap, providing a clear outline
of the Department’s goals and initiatives for the next
two years while simultaneously helping guide policy and operational
changes and improvements. Built upon recommendations contained
in the August 2002 McKinsey Report (which provided an operational
review of the Department’s response on September 11,
2001), the Strategic Plan focuses on six critical areas:
· Emergency Response Operations
· Health and Safety of FDNY members
· Management and Organizational Development
· Diversity
· Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Education
· Technology
“The Department must continue to be forward-thinking
and the Strategic Plan is a critical component in the Department’s
long term strategy,” said Commissioner Scoppetta. “This
plan will serve as our guide as we continue to improve our
operational efficiency and prepare for the new challenges
that face the City. The implementation of all the goals in
the Strategic Plan will ensure that we are on the right path
to meeting the needs of the City and its residents."
The Plan was created by the Fire Department’s Planning
Oversight Committee (POC), which is comprised of uniformed
members, civilian staff and bureau heads.
