FIRE MARSHALS ARREST STUDENT
IN HARLEM SCHOOL FIRE
Fire Marshals from the FDNY Bureau of Fire Investigation
today facilitated the arrest of a 14-year old girl who deliberately
set a fire in a 3rd floor classroom yesterday inside P.S.
175. The fire was reported yesterday at 10:43 AM at 175 W.
134 Street, Manhattan. Upon arrival, fire units encountered
a light smoke condition throughout the building. The main
body of fire was located in the closet of classroom #305,
and spread throughout the contents of the closet up to the
ceiling. The FDNY was forced to evacuate the school and students
were moved to P.S. 92 and P.S. 96. Fire Marshals quickly determined
an open flame inside the closet set the fire. Further investigation
and interviews of witnesses led them the arrest of the 14-year
old female student whose name is being withheld at this time.
The student is being charged with second-degree Arson, Reckless
Endangerment, and Criminal Mischief.
