FIRE MARSHALS ARREST BROOKLYN
MAN
IN CONNECTION WITH FIREFIGHTING EQUIPMENT
STOLEN FROM WORLD TRADE CENTER DISASTER SITE
Fire Marshals from the New York City Fire
Department's Bureau of Fire Investigation announced today
the arrest of Jack Ianno, age 24 of 2855 Cropsy Avenue in
Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Ianno was arrested following a call to his home for a
report of an odor of smoke. Members from Ladder Company 166
forced the door to the second floor apartment in order to
extinguish a fire on the stove. Inside the apartment, firefighters
spotted what appeared to be an air tank and mask, commonly
referred to by firefighters as a Scott Pack. Closer inspection
revealed that the breathing apparatus belonged to FDNY Ladder
Company 22 of upper Manhattan, and was reported missing on
September 11, 2001 from the site of the World Trade Center
disaster.
Fire Marshals assigned to the Bureau of Fire Investigation
affected the arrest of Mr. Ianno and have charged him with
Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, a class E Felony.
If convicted Mr. Ianno could face up to three years in prison.
