FIRE COMMISSIONER NICHOLAS SCOPPETTA TO
OFFICIATE AT PROMOTIONAL CEREMONY FOR 38 MEMBERS OF THE
NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT
Tomorrow, Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta will preside over a promotional
ceremony for 38 members of the New York City Fire Department. The event will
include the promotion of four Deputy Chiefs, 10 Battalion Chiefs, nine Captains
and 15 Lieutenants. These newly promoted officers will be assigned to divisions
and battalions throughout the City of New York.
In addition to the promotions of new officers, Commissioner Scoppetta will
also appoint a new FDNY Chaplain, Reverend Stephen Harding. Reverend Harding
is a resident of Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, and currently serves the parish
of The Church of the Epiphany, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
He was a staple within the department after 9-11, helping to form support groups
in various EMS Battalions as well as working weekly shifts at the morgue at
Ground Zero. He is also a Chaplain at Beth Israel Medical Center and holds
two Master’s Degrees. Reverend Harding joins a diverse group of clergy
that offer spiritual support to all members of the New York City Fire Department.
