Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano Appoints Edward S. Kilduff Chief of Department
Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano today announced the appointment of Edward S. Kilduff as the FDNY’s Chief of Department - the highest-ranking uniformed position in the agency. Chief Kilduff, a 32-year veteran who has served as Brooklyn Borough Commander since August of 2004, will become the 34th Chief of Department in the agency’s 145-year history. His appointment is effective today. He succeeds Commissioner Cassano, who served as Chief of Department for nearly four years prior to being named Fire Commissioner.

Members Carry on SI Burn Center Toy Drive in Memory of Lt. Ryan
Firefighters helped Santa give away Legos, radio-controlled cars, markers, soccer balls and even plastic fire trucks to dozens of smiling children at the Staten Island University Hospital’s Dr. Jerome L. Finkelstein Burn Center on Dec. 15. And it was all in memory of Lt. Robert J. Ryan of Engine 155, who died in the line of duty on Nov. 23, 2008.

New Fire Code for New York City
The Fire Department’s four-year Fire Code Revision Project culminated on May 28, 2008, with the City Council’s enactment of a new Fire Code for New York City. The legislation, Local Law No. 26 of 2008, was signed by Mayor Bloomberg on June 3, 2008.
