On October 15, the call came in at 3:22
PM that the Staten Island Ferry had just been involved
in a collision resulting in numerous injuries.
It was not until units began arriving on scene
just minutes later, that the severity of the incident
materialized.

The above photo, taken prior to
the incident, shows the Andrew J. Barberi, named
after the renowned Curtis High School coach. The
ferry, commissioned in 1981, is over 300 feet long
with a capacity of 6,000 passengers.
