Firemen’s Corner
Dedicated to the memory of the six firefighters
who made the ultimate sacrifice on August 2, 1978
|
On August 2, 1978, six firefighters lost their
lives at "The Waldbaums fire". Twenty one
years later, in what is said to be the last public
dedication to honor the fallen heroes, the corner
of Avenue Y and Ocean Ave. was renamed "Firemen’s
Corner". Fire Commissioner Von Essen was on hand
to unveil the sign during the noon ceremony.
