The FDNY reminds all New Yorkers to change the batteries in their smoke and CO detectors when they change their clocks for Daylight Saving Time on March 10.

"A smoke detector is your first line of defense," Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said. "It's a simple way to keep you and your family safe."

The FDNY's Fire Safety Education team was out for several days, giving away free smoke and CO detector batteries as well as fire safety information throughout the five boroughs.

"It's simple and is the best way to save a life," Fire Safety Education Director Anthony Mancuso said.
