Two days after honoring those lost on Sept. 11, FDNY members gathered for a happy occasion, the promotion of 15 Fire lieutenants.
“This morning’s ceremony, though it’s comes so soon after September 11th, is a happy occasion, and one to be celebrated, because you’ve certainly earned it,” Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said during the ceremony at the Fire Academy. “Our greatest resource will always be our members and you continue to make this Department and this city proud.”
Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano and Chief of Department Edward Kilduff promote the 15 members at the Fire Academy.
The newly promoted lieutenants comprise nearly 160 years of experience with the Department. They will be assigned to various units throughout the city.
“You are the future leaders of the FDNY,” Chief of Department Edward Kilduff said. “It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get to this day. We are proud of your drive, your determination and your commitment to the Department.”
