Fire Prevention Week 2008: October 5 - 11

October 5 – 11, 2008

The FDNY will commemorate Fire Prevention Week 2008 from October 5 to 11. The week enables the FDNY to stress the importance of fire safety for all New Yorkers.

The overall leading cause of death in the home is fire and fire related injuries. Nearly half of all fire related child deaths are caused by activities and negligence, such as leaving a candle unattended, overloading electrical outlets and smoking.

Please join members of the Fire Safety Education Unit, Bureau of Operations and FDNY Foundation during one of the many free events scheduled throughout the City. The Department also recommends you take part in other fire prevention activities such as, having a fire drill, or visiting your local firehouse, the New York City Fire Department Museum and Learning Center or the FDNY Fire Zone:
