FDNY Receives $40,000 Grant for FDNY High School

Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta joined executives from Taylor & Taylor Associates, Inc. and the Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company on March 12 to announce a $40,000 grant awarded to the FDNY High School.

The grant will help fund the purchase of state-of-the-art fitness equipment for students considering a career in the emergency response field. Also included in the grant package is a message board that will help to recruit new students.

“A lot of work went in to getting the school up and running, and a lot of work still has to be done,” said Commissioner Scoppetta. “But it’s heartening to know that there are great folks like those at Taylor & Taylor and Fireman’s Fund Insurance who are willing to step in and help.”

In 2006, Taylor & Taylor and the Fireman’s Fund donated a $50,000 grant for equipment used in fire and medical care training activities.

Since 2004, the FDNY High School - located in the East New York section of Brooklyn - has served hundreds of students using a unique curriculum focused on the academic, physical and ethical challenges within the emergency response field.

The program allows students the opportunity to earn a New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification along with their high school diploma, while enjoying a variety of educational and career paths to choose from - including the FDNY.

“I’m proud to provide continued support to the FDNY High School,” said Scott Taylor, President of Taylor & Taylor.
