Honor and Remembrance for Firefighters in Charleston

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the nine heroic firefighters who made the Supreme Sacrifice in the Charleston, South Carolina, furniture warehouse fire on June 18.

This is an unimaginable loss for the Charleston Fire Department and the members of the community. On behalf of the 15,000 members of the New York City Fire Department, we offer our deepest sympathies.

Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano has reached out to Charleston Fire Chief Rusty Thomas to convey our heartfelt condolences and to offer any assistance his department may need.

The Charleston Fire Department has asked that members of our Emerald Society Pipes and Drums Band attend and perform at the memorial service scheduled for Friday. Also two staff chiefs and several members of the FDNY who served previously for the Charleston Fire Department will attend the service to represent the FDNY.
