Firefighters from Engines 42 and 75 presented a plaque to the emergency room doctors at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center on June 15, in appreciation of their efforts to save the lives of Lieutenant Howard Carpluk, Jr. and Probationary Firefighter Michael Reilly last year.

Lt. Carpluk, 43, and Firefighter Reilly, 25, sustained critical injuries while battling a third-alarm fire in the South Bronx on August 27.

Both were transported to Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center. Firefighter Reilly succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Lt. Carpluk was transported from the hospital to the cardiac support center at Montefiore Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on August 28.
