The Fire Department of the City of New York issues Certificates of Fitness for various occupations by providing tests to applicants. Certificates of Fitness is required by laws and regulations to conduct certain businesses within the New York City for hazardous occupations.

NEW RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS FOR FIRE SAFETY DIRECTORS AS OF 10/1/10
All FSD renewals have new requirements. In order to renew, current holders must attend an accredited course in Building Operation, Maintenance and Recordkeeping. To obtain the list of approved schools, click here
