Improved compliance of public assembly safety conditions City-wide
The inspectors in Public Assembly monitor
compliance in high-occupancy and high-risk
places of assembly. The Unit members participate
in the Multi-Agency Response to Community
Hotspots (MARCH) and have worked tirelessly
to improve quality of life, compliance and first
responder support.
For the past five years, they have been key contributors,
implementing an ambitious partnership
with the Departments of Buildings and Consumer
Affairs to improve inter-agency communication,
prototype automated data exchange and set the
foundation for the digital blueprint program.
This unit is responsible for monitoring more
than 12,000 permitted places of assembly, such as
restaurants, cabarets and movie theatres. Their
efforts are a key component of Fire Prevention’s
goal to provide validated, vital information and
floor plans to first responders.
As a direct result of their efforts, there was a 21
percent increase in the Department of Buildings
Public Assembly permits. More than 2886 obsolete
locations were identified.
For improving compliance in these places of
assembly, the above-listed individuals are presented
with the Moe Ginsberg Award.
