Public Meetings
The New York City Charter requires the Equal Employment Practices Commission to meet at least once every eight weeks. Consequently, the Commission meets eight to ten times a year. Pursuant to the State Open Meetings Law, all meetings of the Commission are open to the public. Notice of EEPC meetings is published in the City Record at least ten days before the meeting. Three Commissioners constitutes a quorum for a meeting.
During these meetings the Commissioners approve audit findings and completion of audit compliance, and issuing a report to the mayor when necessary, by adopting the appropriate resolutions. The Commissioners also discuss and approve staff recommendations on a variety of issues relative to addressing the Commission's mandate, e.g., approving the annual audit plan, establishing advisory committees on specific EEO issues, and approving topics for public hearings.
Public Hearings
The Commission sponsors one to two public hearings a year. Public hearings focus on the implementation of the City's Equal Employment Opportunity Policy (EEOP) or specific equal employment opportunity issues. The last public hearing was on "Private Sector Diversity Initiatives in Senior Management/Lessons for the Public Sector”. Previous public hearings addressed implementation of the City’s EEOP issued by the Bloomberg administration in January 2005, as well as specific EEO issues such as the federal No FEAR Law or the Americans With Disabilities Act.
