The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is releasing an application for community-based organizations for The New York City Adult Literacy Initiative. This application is for community-based organizations (CBOs) offering to provide services as part of the New York City Adult Literacy Initiative (NYCALI). NYCALI is a coordinated system of literacy-providing agencies, including community-based organizations, which offer programs in Adult Basic Education, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Basic Education in the Native Language in New York City.
It is anticipated that funding for NYCALI CBOs will be obtained through a two-step process. Through this application process, DYCD seeks to select up to 35 CBOs whose proposed services will be included in the City’s proposal to New York State Education Department (NYSED). Should the City receive an award from NYSED, DYCD would then enter into contracts with the selected CBOs based upon the services offered in their applications.
Applications can be obtained from DYCD beginning February 6, 2006 to February 27, 2006, at the Office of Literacy, 156 William Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10038.
Applications are due no later than February 27, 2006, 5:00 PM; and must be hand delivered to the attention of Mr. Richard Fish, Senior Advisor, at the Office of Literacy, Department of Youth and Community Development, 156 William Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10038. Only applications received by hand delivery no later than February 27, 2006, 5:00 PM, will be accepted.
DYCD will be conducting information sessions on Friday, February 10, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm for providers offering services in Manhattan, Queens, or Staten Island and on Friday, February 10 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm for providers offering services in Brooklyn or the Bronx. The sessions will take place at the Department of Youth and Community Development, 2nd Floor Auditorium, 156 William Street, New York, NY 10038.
