DYCD supports reading, writing, GED, and English language classes for youth and adults.
Adolescent Literacy Program - A pilot project for students in grades 6 and 7. Community organizations have partnered with 11 middle schools to offer after school programs designed to strengthen reading, writing, and communication skills. Students improve their literacy skills while working on engaging projects such as writing original plays or studying the environment.
Adult Literacy
Program - Helps adults acquire reading
and writing skills.
English Language
Program - Whether you speak a
little English or none at all, DYCD funds an English language program to meet
your needs.
Family Literacy
Program - Offers parents and
their school-aged children the opportunity to work together on developing
their reading, writing, and English-language skills. Fifteen elementary schools
and local community organizations have teamed up to offer these special classes.
Parents not only improve their English language and literacy skills, they also
learn how to become full partners in their children’s
education.
