Success Story

Name: Fatim
Age: 12 years old

Home: Mott Haven, Bronx

Provider: Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City

Fatim and her family came to New York City from the Ivory Coast and settled in Queens.  A social worker connected Fatim to the New American Program operated by Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of New York City.  The New American Program is a one-to-one mentoring initiative designed to meet the unique needs of immigrant youth who face pressures adjusting to their new home.  Thanks in large part to the hard work and dedication of Julie, her “Big Sister”, Fatim is now fluent in English, excelling in school, making friends and taking advantage of all New York City has to offer.  Fatim’s two younger sisters are now also enrolled in the New American Program.
