DYCD HOSTS THE 5TH ANNUAL FATHERHOOD EVENT AT THE NEW YORK AQUARIUM
On June 16, DYCD hosted its 5th Annual Father’s Day event, Dads’ Day at the New York Aquarium. Approximately 150 dads and children participated in an Aquarium-wide scavenger hunt and a workshop on “Daddies in the Sea.” and participants learned about the role of male caregivers in the sea kingdom. A special California Sea Lion demonstration was arranged. During animal feedings, handlers answered questions about daddies of each particular species. The keynote address was given by Dr. Jeff Gardere, author, adjunct professor at Touro College, and host of VH-1’s “Dad Camp”. Welcoming the dads and children to the event were: DYCD Commissioner Jeanne B. Mullgrav, NYCHA Chairman John B. Rhea, NYC Council Member Domenic M. Recchia Jr., NYC Fatherhood Services Coordinator Alan S. Farrell, and NY Aquarium Director Jon F. Dohlin. Also in attendance were DYCD Deputy Commissioner Suzanne Lynn, Assistant Commissioner Cindy Colter, and Fatherhood Director Mike Bobbitt.
