Reading & Writing

DYCD supports reading, writing, GED, and English language classes for youth and adults.

Adolescent Literacy Program
A pilot project for students in grades 6 and 7. Community organizations have partnered with 10 middle schools to offer afterschool programs designed to strengthen reading, writing, and communication skills.

Adult Literacy Program
Helps adults acquire the reading and writing skills to further their education or feel more comfortable in the workplace.

English Language Program
Whether you speak a little English or none at all, DYCD funds an English language program to meet your needs. 

We Are New York
We Are New York can help you learn English and find out about helpful City services. You can watch the videos on TV, on your computer, or in a free conversation group. You can also download free study guides, magazines and other resources to help you practice your English.
