We live in a city of immigrants. According to U.S.
Census data, 36 percent of New York residents were born outside the United
States. DYCD supports more than 80 organizations providing a wide array of
services to immigrants and refugees:
Provider: Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City
Fatim and her family came to New York City from the Ivory Coast and settled in Queens. A social worker connected Fatim to the New American Program operated by Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of New York City. The New American Program is a one-to-one mentoring initiative designed to meet the unique needs of immigrant youth who face pressures adjusting to their new home. Thanks in large part to the hard work and dedication of Julie, her “Big Sister”, Fatim is now fluent in English, excelling in school, making friends and taking advantage of all New York City has to offer. Fatim’s two younger sisters are now also enrolled in the New American Program.
U.S.Citizenship and
Immigration Services (USCIS) Final Fee Rule The
final fee rule establishes three new fees, including a fee for regional center
designations under the Immigrant Investor (EB-5) Pilot Program, a fee for
individuals seeking civil surgeon designation, and a fee to recover USCIS
costs to process immigrant visas granted by the Department of State.
Additionally, the final rule reduces and eliminates several fees, including
some for service members and certain veterans of the U.S. armed forces who are
seeking citizenship-related benefits. The final rule also expands the
availability of fee waivers to additional categories.
