2012 NYC STEP IT UP DANCE COMPETITION
The Department of Youth and Community Development and Nike have partnered to bring to life the Step it Up dance/step campaign. A city-wide initiative that uses sport-arts as catalysts for social change, the campaign will elevate and mobilize young people through the art of dance/step all while empowering teams to engage their communities around causes like education, anti-violence, homeless prevention, inequality, health, HIV/AIDS and the environment.

2011 INTERAGENCY COORDINATING COUNCIL ON YOUTH (ICC) ANNUAL REPORT

THE FAMILY THERAPY INTERVENTION PILOT (FTIP)
The Family Therapy Intervention Pilot (FTIP) is a project of DYCD in partnership with SCO Family of Services and Green Chimneys. It helps youth remain in or return to the family home by promoting families’ acceptance of their lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) children and providing free services to reduce negative outcomes experienced by LGBTQ youth. Service providers may request a meeting or presentation from SCO Family of Services or Green Chimneys staff to explore the program with your team. If any parent or family member feels that your family could benefit from these services, contact them to learn more. APPLICATION OPEN: WORK PROGRESS PROGRAM
CEO and the NYC Human Resources Administration are seeking service providers to participate in a new subsidized wage program for low-income young adults. The Work Progress Program offers reimbursement for wages paid to young adults placed in short-term jobs. The program is funded by the Young Men’s Initiative and is accepting applications on a rolling basis.

Launched by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, NYC Ladders for Leaders is a joint program of the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and the NYC Commission on Women’s Issues (CWI).

NEW YORK CITY NAMED ONE OF THE NATION’S 100 BEST COMMUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE BY AMERICA’S PROMISE ALLIANCE AND ING
In a celebration of America’s young people and the communities most dedicated to helping local youth graduate from high school, America’s Promise Alliance has announced the 2011 100 Best Communities for Young People presented by ING. This year, more than 300 communities in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., were nominated for the competition. Twenty-two communities are now five-time winners and 29 communities are first-time recipients of the honor. New York City was recognized for the 4th time as one of the best communities for youth. DYCD FISCAL MANUAL FOR FY2012 IS NOW AVAILABLE ON-LINE
The revised DYCD Fiscal Manual for FY2012 is now available on-line. Among the revisions for FY2012: The definition of full-time employee versus part-time employee is clarified. The Fiscal Agent fee scale has been changed under the new contract which began July 1, 2011. No bids are required for purchases up to $5,000.

PREQUALIFICATION (PQL) FOR NEW YORK CITY COUNCIL DISCRETIONARY FUNDING
Any organization applying to the New York City Council to receive one or more discretionary award(s) totaling more than $10,000 must be Prequalified. DYCD administers the Prequalification (PQL) process for City Council Discretionary funding on behalf of the City, under the guidance of the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services.

“FRESH START KITS” FOR VULNERABLE YOUTH
DYCD is assembling “Fresh Start Kits” containing personal hygiene items to help
runaway and homeless youth maintain their dignity in the face of significant
challenges. DYCD reached out to local businesses and national retailers
seeking donations of non-perishable snacks, soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and
toothpaste, band-aids and other essential items to be distributed to vulnerable
youth who are receiving services through DYCD-funded programs. A number of
civic-minded businesses have contributed to the “Fresh Start Kits”,

DYCD
continues to seek donations; New Yorkers can call the Youth Connect hotline at
