Info for Residents
Information regarding times for street closures and advice on alternate routing will be posted here closer to the date of the event. You can also subscribe to DOT's email traffic advisories.
  • Parking will be restricted along the route beginning at midnight the night before each event through 2:00 pm the day of the event. We encourage you to plan ahead and observe posted parking restrictions. Access to garages on side streets WILL be possible.
  • Noise volumes will be kept low throughout the event, with no amplified sound before 10:00 am.
  • Come out and play!

Info for Businesses
  • Consider scheduling deliveries and pick-ups on Friday or after 2:00 pm on the three Summer Streets Saturdays.
  • Notify your clients & customers ahead of time and invite them to participate in the festivities.

Info for Participants

There is no official starting or end point for Summer Streets; you can join in anytime between 7 am and 1 pm wherever is convenient for you -- just come out and play!

Getting to Summer Streets by Mass Transit

The entire route is easily accessible by the Lexington Avenue line (4, 5, 6) of the subway. The Lexington Avenue line connects with MetroNorth Railroad at 125th Street and Grand Central Station.

Visitors coming on the LIRR can either take the train to downtown Brooklyn and walk or bike across the Brooklyn Bridge or to Penn Station and walk or bike east to join the route.

Visitors coming by ferry to Lower Manhattan can join the route at Centre Street and the Brooklyn Bridge or take the 4 or the 5 train to points north along the route.

Transportation Alternatives - Escorted Bike Rides to and from Summer Streets
Looking for a safe and fun way to ride to and from Summer Streets?  Join Transportation Alternatives, New York City’s bicycle and pedestrian advocacy group, on a leisurely-paced bike ride from neighborhoods in Queens, Brooklyn, upper Manhattan and the Bronx to Summer Streets and then home again. The rides will be great for cyclists of all ages and riding abilities.

Times:Start 8:30 am / Return 12:00 pm

Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn
Meet under The Soldiers' and Sailors' Arch at Grand Army Plaza
Return ride will meet at the Soho Station (near Bicycle Habitat)

Astoria Park, Queens
Meet up in Astoria Park in front of the World War I Memorial along Shore Boulevard
Return Ride will meet at 51st Street and Park Avenue

Woodlawn, The Bronx
Meet at East 233rd Street and Bronx Boulevard
Return Ride will meet at 72nd Street and Park Avenue

Inwood, Manhattan
Meet at Isham Park, on Isham Street at Seaman Avenue
Return ride will meet at 60th Street and Park Avenue


What to Bring to the T.A. Rides

  • A well-functioning bicycle (make sure to check the your tires for air)
  • Helmet (required by NY State law for children under 14, recommended for all others – make sure it fits snugly)
  • Water bottle filled with water
  • Sunscreen

Getting to Summer Streets by Car
Parking in the streets and in local parking garages surrounding the Summer Streets route will be restricted due to street closures. We encourage participants to take mass transit to Summer Streets or use existing bike paths to make your way to the event.
