NYC DOT Announces Schedule of Vision Zero Public Workshops Planned in Each Borough, The Next Step in the City’s Street Safety Action Plan

Nine public workshops planned citywide will provide for extensive community input and pedestrian safety planning as DOT and the NYPD pursue the Vision Zero initiatives announced earlier this year

New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Polly Trottenberg today announced details on the nine upcoming street safety public workshops, allowing for extensive community input and collaboration as DOT and the New York City Police Department develop comprehensive pedestrian safety plans for each borough. Building on the ongoing series of Vision Zero town halls held in coordination with the City Council and other stakeholders, the workshops mark the first step in the planning process for safer streets across the city. Each workshop is designed for members of the public to learn more about the Vision Zero blueprint, provide input on conditions in neighborhoods where they live, work and visit, and to aide in the prioritization of street safety initiatives. During the events, New Yorkers will have the opportunity to contribute specific suggestions or concerns, participate in mapping activities to pinpoint issues, and join in small discussion groups moderated by agency staff, allowing community members to collaborate with their neighbors.

“Making Vision Zero a reality means more than just engineering, education and enforcement: it’s a collaborative effort that will require every New Yorker to play their part,” said DOT Commissioner Trottenberg. “These workshops are an open call for all citizens looking to shape the future of their neighborhoods. Building on a city’s worth of local insight, they will lay the groundwork for streets that work better for everyone.”
