The New York City Department of Transportation (DOT)
today announced that a Holiday Fair in the Staten Island Ferry's Whitehall
Terminal in Lower Manhattan will open tomorrow, Monday, November 26th. The Fair
will bring holiday spirit and shopping convenience to the tens of thousands of
daily commuters who pass through the terminal.
"About 65,000 people pass through the Whitehall Ferry
Terminal on a typical weekday, and we are happy to provide them with the
opportunity to do some shopping while they wait for the next ferry," said
Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan. "The terminals are beautiful
public spaces and we continue to look for new ways to draw in visitors."
The Fair will operate seven days a week until December
24th. It will be located on the concourse level near the waiting room and will
be available to Staten Islanders and tourists passing through the terminals, as
well as to any Battery Park-area workers and residents.
Thirty-seven vendors will take part in the Fair, selling
men's and women's clothing, hats, gloves, scarves, bags and wallets, jewelry,
bath and beauty products, coffee and tea pots, and a variety of other gift
items. Both the Whitehall and St. George terminals are already decorated for the
holidays as part of the Fair.
