DOT Announces First Free Car Seat Check Event of 2006
Release #06-01
Thursday, January 5, 2006
The New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) will hold a free car seat check event this Saturday, January 7, 2006 from 11 am to 3 pm at Potamkin Chevrolet on West 56th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. Participants will have the opportunity to have their child's car seat(s) checked and if necessary reinstalled by certified child passenger safety instructors from the NYCDOT Safety Education Office.
"Each year, car seats become more sophisticated, which means they keep our kids safer but can also be more difficult to properly install" said Transportation Commissioner Iris Weinshall. "This is a fun, free event that will give parents the peace of mind that their most precious cargo is safely strapped in."
In 2005, NYCDOT held 4 Saturday car seat check events at Potamkin Chevrolet and plans to expand the program to 10 weekend events this year. Free car seat checks are also available Monday through Friday, by appointment, at the following locations:
