Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT)
Commissioner Paul J. Cosgrave and Community Affairs Unit (CAU) Commissioner
Nazli Parvizi today unveiled Staten Island Community Board 1's newly-designed
website on NYC.gov. Joining Commissioners Cosgrave and Parvizi at the
announcement this morning at the St. George Library Center was a representative
of Borough President James Molinaro, City Council Member Michael McMahon, and
Community Board 1 Chair Sean Sweeney. The site, accessible via NYC.gov at
www.nyc.gov/sicb1, includes links to
Staten Island and citywide elected officials and agencies, the latest local
news, meetings and announcements, a photo gallery, and information about dozens
of community resources, civic organizations and cultural centers. Also
directly accessible from the site is NYCityMap, which gives users information
about the nearest transportation, schools, hospitals, educational facilities,
resident services and more, simply by entering an address.
"DoITT has a long-standing, productive relationship with the City's Community
Boards, and launch of this new website is the latest example of that
collaboration," said DoITT Commissioner Paul J. Cosgrave. "This and other
technical services we provide Community Boards citywide help them serve their
customers more efficiently, which in the end is a win for all New Yorkers."
"It is important that all New Yorkers remain informed on events and issues
affecting their community," said Commissioner Parvizi. "CB 1's new and
improved website gives Staten Islanders in this district a way to find out
what's going in the community while also making it easier for everyone to be
more active and engaged community members."
"CB1 and DoITT are bringing government into the 21st Century, when more and
more people are getting their information from the Internet, said Borough
President James Molinaro. "Last year, my office started posting applications for
Community Board members on our website to make the process easier, and it has
been a great success. I applaud CB1 for working with DoITT on a redesigned
website that will provide North Shore residents with easier access to news and
information affecting their neighborhoods."
"The redesigned website will be a great tool to provide better services for
the people of the North Shore, said Council Member Michael McMahon. "I applaud
Community Board 1 for being the first to access this service DOITT is
providing."
Designed by DoITT to the specifications of Staten Island Community Board 1,
the new NYC.gov-hosted website allows the public to more easily access important
information about the community and the activities of the community board.
Going forward, DoITT will also train the community board's staff to manage its
own content on the site, and provide ongoing publishing assistance and support
as necessary. While DoITT offers redesign services to community boards
across the City who request them, Community Board 1 is the first in Staten
Island to take advantage of this service.
Said Chair Sweeney, "I want to thank Commissioner Cosgrave and all the people
of DoITT who have made this website possible. With your help we are now
able to bring local government one step closer to the people it serves.
This website will be a wonderful tool to enhance the free exchange of
ideas. I would also like to thank Commissioner Nazli Parvizi and Victoria
Larsen of Mayor Bloomberg's Community Affairs Unit for their unwavering
support."
