DOI’s broad jurisdiction includes more than 45 mayoral agencies and over 300 other City agencies, entities, boards and commissions. Pursuant to a Memorandum of Understanding, DOI also manages the Inspector General for the New York City Housing Authority, the largest public housing authority in the country. The agency has a similar Memorandum of Understanding with the New York City Housing Development Corporation. In addition, the DOI Commissioner oversees the Special Commissioner of Investigation for the New York City School System and the Commission to Combat Police Corruption. DOI also has a working relationship with the School Construction Authority.
