9/11 Health - Rescue and Recovery Workers

Tracking Fatalities Among Rescue, Recovery and Clean-up Workers and Volunteers

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) is identifying and tracking all fatalities that occur among WTC responders so that science-based studies of root causes can be conducted.

NYSDOH collects information about the deceased person's demographics; reported cause of death, including underlying causes; health status prior to and after the WTC disaster, details of WTC exposure between September 11, 2001 and June 30, 2002; and autopsy results, when applicable. Follow-up interviews will be conducted on all non-traumatic/non-suicide fatalities that have occurred since January 1, 2006.

To report the death of any rescue, recovery or clean-up worker, or volunteer please contact:
