Governor Paterson Urges Presidential Candidates To Provide 9/11 Health Benefits
October 14, 2008
Prior to the final Presidential debate at Long Island’s Hofstra University, New York Governor David Paterson wrote an open letter to Senators John McCain and Barack Obama suggesting ten ways the new President can rebuild the partnership between the federal government and the states. Patterson urged the next President to provide health benefits to 9/11 responders. "The federal government has not responded adequately to [the collapse of the WTC], forcing states to cover the health costs of additional public workers who participated in the rescue, recovery and cleanup," wrote Paterson.
Recent news reports show that Senator Obama supports funding for 9/11 health monitoring and treatment and reopening the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.
