Zoonotic and Vectorborne Disease Unit

The Zoonotic and Vectorborne Disease Unit (ZVDU) conducts disease surveillance, investigations, education, and consultations with human and animal health care providers with the goal of preventing and controlling human illness due to zoonotic and vectorborne diseases.

ZOONOTIC DISEASES are diseases caused by infectious agents that can be transmitted between (or are shared by) animals and humans.

VECTORBORNE DISEASES are diseases that can be transmitted through the bite of anarthropod (insect, tick, mosquito, etc.) to humans or other animals.
