Vital Statistics : NYC DOHMH

Vital Statistics

General Information

Vital statistics such as births, deaths, and spontaneous and induced terminations of pregnancy in New York City (NYC) are published annually in the Summary of Vital Statistics. To order copies of birth certificates or death certificates, please refer to Vital Records.

Data requests

1. EpiQuery has birth and death information as well as data from other Health Department sources. Follow this link to learn more.

2. The Summary of Vital Statistics is published every year and includes our most recent statistics. The 2009 summary has been reorganized and includes numerous new and revised tables, graphs and maps. The Highlights present 10 years of core New York City vital data trends. It captures important changes in leading causes of death, birth rates, and infant mortality.

3. If you cannot find the data you need via EpiQuery or The Summary of Vital Statistics, please submit a data request.

Improving Quality

Two specific initiatives include the regular distribution of a birth quality newsletter and the creation of resources to improve cause of death documentation.
