Applying for Certificates Online
Order birth and death certificates online now.
Cost: $15 + $8.30 mailing and service charge
To apply for a birth or death certificate online, you pay with a credit card, debit card, or checking account in your name. Birth certificate orders are processed within 24 hours. It takes an additional 10 business days to process orders for NYC death certificates, vault copies of NYC birth certificates and letters of exemplification.
Online ordering only may be used to order birth certificates for you and your children, provided you are named on the birth certificates. Registered nonprofit agencies also can order online. Only family members may order a death certificate online. For all other requests, you must submit an order in-person or by mail.
The NYC Health Department checks all information to make sure we send the certificate to the right person and address. Please answer all questions as completely as possible or we will have to contact you for more information, which could delay the process.
