Statement from the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
on the Death
of a Bronx High School of Science Student
On Saturday, November 9, a 16 year old Bronx High School of Science Student
passed away while on a bus field trip to visit various colleges.
Examinations available so far suggest the student's death was related to an
ongoing medical condition which is not contagious in origin. Tests will be
performed that will allow us to be more definitive. Investigations are
ongoing and not yet complete. We are making arrangements to keep in touch
with parents so that they can receive information as it becomes available.
The school has counselors available now and will continue to provide
counselling services to students and their families.
