MEDIA ADVISORY: HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFERING FREE DENTAL SCREENINGS AND SEALANTS FOR CHILDREN

WHAT:
The New York City Health Department is offering free dental screenings and sealant programs throughout the month of February, National Children’s Dental Health Month. Elementary and middle school students can access services in schools citywide and in Health Centers with dental clinics. Services will also be available during Midwinter Recess (February 19 – 23).

Give Kids a Smile is a national initiative held annually to provide education, preventive and restorative care to children who do not have access to dental care. Last year, the Health Department provided education about good oral health and the importance of brushing and flossing and screenings to more than 500 children and placed 2,000 sealants for Give Kids a Smile.

WHEN:
Throughout February, including Midwinter Recess

WHERE:
Elementary and middle school students can access services in their school or at a school nearby. To find out participating schools, call 311. For all other New Yorkers, see below for health center locations.
