The New York City Board of Health voted today to formally allow the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (Parks) to codify its long-standing “courtesy hours” policy allowing dogs off leashes in designated areas of City parks between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m.

HEALTH DEPARTMENT RELEASES REPORT ON SUMMER 2006 HEAT WAVE DEATHS
The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) today released findings on deaths related to the summer’s heat waves, including an analysis of the 40 heat stroke deaths that resulted from the July 27th to August 5th heat wave, which had been previously confirmed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
