PUBLIC HEARING ON TRANS FAT AND CALORIE LABELING PROPOSALS BEING HELD TODAY, MONDAY OCTOBER 30

NEW YORK CITY – October 30, 2006 –; Today, a public hearing is being held on the two proposals made to the Board of Health last month. The first proposal for comment is a partial phase-out of artificial trans fat in all New York City restaurants. The second would require restaurants that already make calorie content publicly available on or after March 1, 2007 to also post it on their menus and menu boards.
The hearing will start at 10 a.m. Monday, 30 October, at the NYC Health Department, 125 Worth Street, in the 2nd floor auditorium. Comments submitted directly to DOHMH will be available to the media within a week after the hearing. Hearing testimony will be transcribed made available within 2 – 3 weeks after the hearing.
