LARVICIDE APPLICATION BY HELICOPTER SCHEDULED FOR MARSH AND NON-RESIDENTIAL AREAS OF STATEN ISLAND, QUEENS, AND BRONX

Application to take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 20-22 from 6:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. each day, Weather Permitting

NEW YORK CITY – June 15, 2006 – The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) will apply larvicide for mosquito control by helicopter to marsh and other non-residential areas of Staten Island, Queens and Bronx. Weather permitting, larvicide will be applied on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 20-22 from 6:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. each day. If weather does not permit, larviciding will begin the morning of Wednesday, June 21 or the next possible day. While three days are allotted for this activity, the application may be completed in less time.

The areas to be treated appear below (see maps for Bronx/Queens and Staten Island). Due to their size and difficulty to reach by ground vehicles, these areas will be treated with larvicide from a low-flying helicopter. There is no ground spraying for adult mosquitoes planned at this time.
